1956 Pine-tree Lappet, Dendrolimus Pini, Snout Moths, Lasiocampidae Original Vintage Offset Lithograph with frame
The Pine-tree Lappet, Dendrolimus pini is a moth of the family Lasiocampidae. It is found in most of Europe ranging to Eastern Asia. The wingspan is 45–70 mm. The larvae feed on Pinus sylvestris, but also other Pinus species, Picea abies and Abies alba. Their common name 'snout moths' comes from their unique protruding mouth parts of some species that resemble a large nose. They are called 'lappet moths' due to the decorative skin flaps found on the caterpillar's prolegs. The name 'eggars' comes from the neat egg-shaped cocoons of some species.
The size of the print (in inches): 10.6" x 7.5" (27 x 19 cm)
The print is in good condition and the paper shows its age
with a creamy patina, also has light staining on the
margin which can be perfectly covered when matted.
Concerning the age of the paper - cca. 70 years - some
spots can be occured on the margin and the reverse side,
but these do not effect the quality of the lithograph
itself as it can be seen on the scan.
Please note, that by antique prints due to their age some
imperfections are to be expected.
