Pillows and vases complete the space and make it personal and cozy.
Formerly, this garden was full of onions and a few raised beds. The client gave me free reign on every material and concept for this space. They wanted places for solitary time as well as entertainment areas. The garden is configured so that the back of the concrete bench creates a sense of entry into the space that then directs your eye to the overhead trellis and dining area, complete with lighting and barbecue. The informal seating area is centered around a custom hand-poured concrete coffee table that we made using a gravel sack.
I chose light colored materials to open up the space. The gravel creates a ground plane that highlights the greens of the plants and the blonde cedar fence and beam benches.
